What is your fee? Do you take insurance?
My fees are similar to those for other highly trained and experienced psychologists in New York City. I am currently in-network with Aetna, which I use through Headway.co. For other insurances I am out of network. I am dedicated to helping you with the process of getting reimbursement from your out-of-network coverage. Here are some questions to ask your insurer:
1. Does my plan have out-of-network coverage?
2. If yes, what is my out-of-network deductible? How much of it have I met this year?
3. What percentage of the fee do you cover? If they ask for a CPT code, give 90834.
4. What is the “allowed amount”? This is a crucial question to get answered.
5. What is the process for submitting a bill for out-of-network reimbursement?
Please don’t hesitate to ask me about this. Insurance plans vary, but many of them do cover a significant portion of the fee. Also, keep in mind that flex spending (FSA) accounts can be used for psychotherapy and represent a significant savings for you. I accept payment by check or Zelle.
What is your policy for missed or cancelled sessions?
You are responsible for payment of all scheduled sessions. If you need to cancel a session, I ask that you give me as much notice as possible and join me in trying to find a workable alternative time to meet. If you prefer not to reschedule (or if I do not get at least twelve hours’ notice of the cancellation), I do charge for the missed session. If you are using insurance, please note that insurance does not cover missed sessions, so you would be responsible for the entire fee. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, let me know and we can discuss it further.
How often will we meet?
Therapy works best with regularly scheduled sessions. For psychotherapy, once a week sessions are an option, although meeting more frequently offers more depth and is more effective in achieving long-lasting change. For those who are most curious about themselves and who seek significant change in their experience of life, we should consider whether psychoanalysis, which involves meeting throughout the week, is right for you.
